The NHS in North East and North Cumbria approved 690 of 3,555 full assessments for continuing healthcare from July 2025 to June 2026: 19.4%. Across England the figure was 17.7%. That is the 11th highest approval rate of England's 36 NHS areas.

If your relative was turned down in North East and North Cumbria

  1. Check the deadline. Most NHS areas give you 6 months from the date on the decision letter. Work out your date.
  2. Ask for the full file: the completed assessment form (the Decision Support Tool), the reasons for the decision, and the care records it relied on.
  3. Check the scores against the national threshold with our free score checker.
  4. Write to the NHS area asking for a review, area of care by area of care, with dated evidence. Our appeal guide and letter template show how.
